Counseling/ Coaching

Here I present possible topics that can be addressed in coaching. Find information about the terms and conditions and schedule an appointment.

Psychological counseling or coaching can take many forms and offer various benefits. In general, psychologists and psychotherapists can be consulted on a wide range of questions related to how individuals and groups function, based on their training and professional experience.

Psychological counseling may be appropriate, for example, when clients:

  • would like to acquire expert knowledge on psychological or psychotherapeutic topics

  • seek professional assessments or advice on such topics

  • want information about different counseling, support, or treatment options

  • experience distress in certain areas that does not meet the threshold for a clinical disorder (i.e., does not justify a diagnosis or therapy)

  • would like continued support following outpatient or inpatient treatment, for example for reintegration or relapse prevention

Coaching is typically a longer-term form of support that is individualized, topic-focused, and goal-oriented. It serves to foster reflection and development of one’s personality, relationships, or professional life. In contrast to psychotherapy, the issues addressed in coaching do not meet clinical criteria for a mental disorder.

Typical topics for counseling and coaching may include:

  • ADHD - symptoms (not to a clinical extend)

  • Adjustment difficulties during life changes

  • Autism spectrum conditions (not to a clinical extend)

  • Challenges related to cultural or race-specific aspects

  • Challenges related to gender or sexual identity

  • Culture-specific (inter-/ transcultural) issues

  • Disabilities, serious illnesses, or surgeries

  • Difficulties connected to class background or class identity

  • Exhaustion and stress

  • Family-related difficulties

  • Giftedness, high sensitivity

  • Grief / loss

  • Identity conflicts

  • Impulse control problems (not to a clinical extend)

  • Lack of joy in life / reduced well-being

  • Low mood or mood fluctuations

  • Relationship or partnership problems

  • Self-esteem problems, self-criticism

  • Social insecurity

  • Work-related problems

What I frequently teach or work on in coaching:

  • Mindfulness, compassion, and acceptance

  • Building healthy/supportive and reducing unhealthy/harmful rituals and habits

  • Reflecting on biographical development and family patterns

  • Strengthening flexibility and motivation; reducing avoidance and rigidity

  • Identifying and, if needed, changing interaction patterns

  • Recognizing and, if needed, modifying personality parts, modes, and schemas

  • Fostering resilience and resource orientation

  • Self-acceptance, self-care, and strengthening self-esteem

  • Overcoming conflicts related to needs and values, as well as internal blocks and developmental barriers

  • Exercises in mindfulness, relaxation, meditation, and enhancing psychological flexibility
